Wine Rave NYC 2007. I kid you not. It's happening later this month. The basic notion is that a rave is the perfect environment for budding oenophiles in the 20 to 30-something age range. Apparently, it's got more appeal than your father's wine tasting. While the event lasts two days, each session is five hours or less, which seems a tad short in rave-terms. The full press release is after the jump, though I warn you it doesn't say which DJ is on deck. I wonder, how do you put your hands in the air if you're holding a glass of pinot noir?
WINE
RAVE NYC – Uncorking a new experience for a new
generation
of wine lovers – April 20 & 21 2007
(New York– March 19, 2007) Wine Rave NYC, the only wine event of its kind, is returning to New York on April 20 and April 21, 2007. After a smashing success in 2005, the Wine Rave is moving to a new venue, Guastavino’s (409 East 59th Street), where 20- and 30-something wine enthusiasts can taste wines from around the world in a sleek, sexy setting. Forget the formal, stuffy tone of most wine tastings – Wine Rave NYC is designed to be fun, enlightening, and accessible.
Whether a novice or a budding expert, guests at Wine Rave NYC will be entertained by the wide variety of wines and programs. Yes, there are seminars, but the “Sips of Wisdom” will be brief and entertaining, led by some of the industry’s top experts. If thirty minutes is too much, then guests can head to the “Hip Sips” lounge, where industry experts will be on hand to discuss their wines and more one-on-one. And let’s not forget the wines– against the spectacular backdrop of Guastavino’s wines from all over the world will be poured – countries such as USA, France, Spain, Greece, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. Among the many exhibitors are Korbel Champagne, Côtes du Rhône, Hahn, Little Black Dress, and J. Lohr.
Wine Rave NYC was created in 2005 by Ian Warren, President of Mouthwater, LLC, a production company in New York City. He knows there is a curiousity about wine among young people, but the existing tasting opportunities are often intimidating and dull. “A city like New York needs a wine event geared to young people. They’re drinking and learning more about wine, and there should be a wine event that appeals to them,” says Warren of where the idea started. “Wine Rave is educational, but the setting is designed to be cool and luxe, like you might find at a club or a lounge. You’re here to learn while having fun and mingling with other new-to-wine drinkers.” Wine Rave NYC will have a relaxed, social atmosphere, and the soaring granite arches and chic garden of Guastavino’s are the perfect setting for this event. A stylish lounge décor, music and lighting help to create the perfect ambiance for turning a wine tasting into a chill gathering where you learn at your own pace.
Wine Rave NYC will take place on Friday, April 20 from 6 to 10 pm and Saturday, April 21 from 5 to 10 pm. Tickets are $65 general admission, or $100 for a VIP ticket that includes priority admission to selected “Sips of Wisdom” seminars, access to a VIP lounge area with gourmet snacks and a goody bag.
Tickets are available online at www.wineravenyc.com, by calling 212-352-9900 or at the door. Major credit cards accepted.
