We had so much fun last week with press releases and open letters that the merriment evolved into a new snack category... snackwire. I'll give a nod of inspiration to EaterWire, Eater's housebrand service of breaking news, and PR Newswire, the service where publicists pay to post their press releases and journalist trawl for free info.
Snackwire aims to provide public service by spreading the word. And entertainment for those who like to be hyper-informed and will compare and contrast the release to the press.
First up, the official press release on Union Square Tokyo from Friday December 1st. Note that the early bird got the worm on this one.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
UNION SQUARE HOSPITALITY GROUP AND WONDERTABLE
FORM AGREEMENT TO OPEN UNION SQUARE TOKYO
.
December 1, 2006 - Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG) has recently completed a business licensing agreement with Wondertable, a Japanese company, to create and open a new restaurant in Tokyo, "Union Square Tokyo (UST)." Under the agreement, Wondertable will own the restaurant, while USHG will provide the trademarked name, expertise, and know-how to create UST, as well as on-going consultation and promotion following its opening.
.
Scheduled to open in the spring of 2007, Union Square Tokyo will be a modern fine dining restaurant inspired in part by Union Square Cafe that will bring to Tokyo the same warm hospitality, seasonal cooking, and high standards of excellence USHG strives to provide its guests at home. The restaurant's menu, created and directed by Union Square Cafe's executive chef-partner Michael Romano, will feature some dishes familiar to guests of Union Square Cafe, lovingly paired with brand new recipes to be based on local market availability in Tokyo.
.
UST will be on the ground floor of what many consider the most dynamic building project currently underway in Japan: Tokyo Midtown. The restaurant, designed through a collaboration of architect Junpei Yamagiwa and USHG Partner David Swinghamer, will have a modern, yet warm, welcoming ambiance with large floor to ceiling windows and an outdoor patio overlooking a beautifully landscaped park, notable for its verdant grove of cherry trees.
.
In New York, Union Square Hospitality Group also operates the award-winning restaurants Union Square Cafe, Gramercy Tavern, Eleven Madison Park, Tabla, Blue Smoke, Jazz Standard, The Modern, Shake Shack, Cafe 2 and Terrace 5 (at MoMA) and Hudson Yards Catering.
