To cap our week of Michelin news, snack will not recapitulate and re-heat the NYC Guide and its stars, prose or relevance. Michelin has been rating restaurants for 107 years since 1900. If they want to rate your town they will. And they’re here to stay.
.
Instead, snack looks forward to the next city - Chicago. Note the absence of words like – “guess” and “bet.” It's not 100%, but my sources say Chitown. This means that inspectors are eating and rating in the second city as we speak. I'd say given how the Chicago market is smaller than NYC; look for a guide about the same size as SF with about 325 listings. There will be at least one, possibly two, three-star venues. Early intell points to Charlie Trotter and possibly Alinea. Expect three-four restaurants in the two-star category, with about two dozen places at one-star. If we know anything about the Michelin man, we know that he like to take his old sweet time on announcements. You probably won't see that press release until February 2007. A long way off indeed, but don't worry, I promise to remind you.
