Has anyone had a good, bad or indifferent experience with the halal cart that’s been parked on Astor Place, across from the cube all summer long? I’ve been tempted by the mouth-watering aromas when I walk by on the way to Snack HQ, but confess I’m a bit skittish when it comes to street-meat in Gotham. Ironic, because I’ve eaten with abandon on the street and at market stalls from Barcelona, Spain to Siem Rep, Cambodia and points in between. I’ll buy roast port cracklings at a train station from a 12-year-old kid in Bangkok, but won’t try the lamb gyro that’s been approved by the NYC Department of Health without a solid recommendation. Go figure.
