The fellas over at Eater asked me to bring something to their big NYC year-end pot-luck. Because they’ve been nice (albeit in a kinda naughty way) here’s some answers to their questions.
- My top three NYC restaurant newcomers of the year? Telepan, sleeper-award to 202 and a big-room-tie between Del Posto and Gilt.
- My top three NYC restaurant standbys of the year? Le Bernardin, Balthazar, and a two-way-tie between 5 Ninth and Shake Shack.
- My NYC meal of the year for 2005? Masa.
- My biggest NYC dining surprise in 2005? The Seasoning of a Chef and Bistro du Vent.
- If I could only have eaten in one NYC neighborhood in 2005, which one would it have been? Does below 23rd Street count as a neighborhood?
- Any guesses which one it will be for 2006? Same as above. But, with another 1000 or so seats under-construction now in the Meatpacking District, I’d guess diners will continue to head west en masse.
